ScanSnap Home Setup

The instructions below apply to the current ScanSnap software, ScanSnap Home. If you still use the older ScanSnap Manager, follow the instructions in ScanSnap Scanners instead.

Scanning Limitations

The ScanSnap works very well with FileCenter, but with one limitation. You can't use 's Scan dialog with the ScanSnap. This means that you can't set scanning parameters like page size, color, resolution, or scanning preferences from FileCenter. It also means you can't initiate scans in FileCenter. Why? Because the ScanSnap doesn't provide a TWAIN driver, which is what third-party programs need to be able to talk to it.

The good news is that you can set up FileCenter as a target application for new scans. This means that you can scan directly into whatever location you have selected in FileCenter. It's a one-step method for scanning and filing simultaneously.

Setting Up the ScanSnap to Work with FileCenter

To connect your ScanSnap to FileCenter, open your ScanSnap software and do the following:

  1. Click the "Settings" menu > "Scan Settings"
  2. Click the "Add Profiles" button
  3. Select "Verify and Save Template" on the left
  4. Check "Browse" under "Save Destination" > "Save To"
  5. Leave the location as the default (should display something similar to - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\PFU\ScanSnap Home\ScanSnap Home)
  6. Click "Detailed Settings"
  7. Verify that all "Document Type" options are set to the file format "PDF"
  8. Verify that "Convert to Searchable PDF" is UNCHECKED under the "File Format" tab

  10. Click "OK"

Configure FileCenter

Do the following to set up FileCenter to receive scans from ScanSnap Home:

  1. Close out of all ScanSnap Windows
  2. Open FileCenter
  3. Click the "Settings" button on main toolbar
  4. Click the "Scan/OCR" option on the left
  5. Set any ScanSnap options desired under the "ScanSnap" section
  6. Click "OK"

Testing Your New Setup

Now let's test your new setup to ensure that ScanSnap scans come into FileCenter:

IMPORTANT: FileCenter must be open with a drawer/folder selected in order for it to receive ScanSnap scans. Think of it as scanning into a drawer or folder.

  1. Open FileCenter
  2. Make sure you are in "Manage" Tab
  3. Go into any drawer or folder
  4. Press the physical "ScanSnap" button on the scanner to perform a scan

When the scan finishes, FileCenter should capture it.
