With the image displayed on your computer monitor:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the Windows <em>Start<\/em> button and type <em>Snipping Tool<\/em> in the <em>Search<\/em> box, then open the <em>Snipping Tool<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draw a rectangle closely around your signature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save it as a PNG file<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Remove the Background<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we need to remove the white background. If you have a favorite graphics program, you probably already know how to do this. If you don&#8217;t, follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/pixlr.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/pixlr.com<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <em>Pixlr E<\/em> or <em>Advanced Photo Editor<\/em> option<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <em>Open Image<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Browse to your signature and open it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the left you&#8217;ll see tools; select the <em>Wand Select<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the toolbar above the image, set <em>Tolerance<\/em> to about 20<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To the right of that setting, de-select <em>Contiguous<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click anywhere in the white<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, the selection should be tight around your signature. If it isn&#8217;t, or if it chops off parts of the signature, type <em>Ctrl D<\/em> to remove the selection, adjust the <em>Tolerance<\/em> up or down, and try the selection again. Raise the tolerance if there is a lot of &#8220;noise&#8221; or extra dots; lower the tolerance if it is eating into your signature. Once the selection looks good:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <em>Edit<\/em> menu &gt; <em>Clear<\/em> (or hit the <em>Del<\/em> button on your keyboard)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <em>Select<\/em> menu &gt; <em>Deselect<\/em> (or type <em>Ctrl+D<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <em>Page<\/em> menu &gt; <em>Trim<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your image now has a transparent background. NOTE: It looks like a checkerboard, but that just tells you that there is no background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, go to <em>File<\/em> &gt; <em>Save<\/em>. <strong>Be sure to select <em>PNG<\/em> as the format<\/strong> and make sure that <em>Transparent<\/em> is turned on. Click <em>Save As<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now give it a name and click <em>Apply<\/em>. It will save the image to your Downloads folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations! You now have a transparent signature. It includes a <a href=\"\/info-pdf-editor-software.html\">PDF editor<\/a> that is on par with Adobe Acrobat Professional, but without the steep monthly price. FileCenter has a <a href=\"\/filecenter-trial.php\">fully-functional trial version<\/a> if you&#8217;d like to give it a go. No obligation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you already have Adobe Acrobat or another PDF editor, the instructions will be very similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use Your Transparent Signature as a PDF Stamp<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you have a transparent signature that you can use anywhere. The easiest way to use it is as a stamp in <a href=\"\/filecenter-features.html\">FileCenter<\/a>. Go to FileCenter&#8217;s <em>PDF Editor<\/em> tab, then do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <em>File<\/em> menu in the PDF editor &gt; <em>New Document<\/em> &gt; <em>With Blank Pages<\/em> and click <em>OK<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the drop-arrow next to the <em>Stamps<\/em> button (it&#8217;s near the far right side of the PDF editor&#8217;s toolbar)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <em>Stamps Palette<\/em> button below the stamps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>Stamps Palette<\/em> will open in its own window<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the stamps palette, click the <em>Add New<\/em> button, then <em>Add New Image from File<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next to <em>Image<\/em>, click the folder button and browse out to the signature you just made and open it (tip: if you can&#8217;t see your file, make sure <em>File Type<\/em> is set to <em>PNG<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <em>New Stamp Options<\/em> at the bottom, click <em>Add New<\/em> next to <em>Target Collection<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type &#8220;Signatures&#8221; then click <em>OK<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <em>OK<\/em> to add the stamp<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your signature will now appear as a stamp in the palette. You can close the palette now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;re done creating your signature stamp. It&#8217;s ready to use. So let&#8217;s sign something:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the drop-arrow next to the <em>Stamps<\/em> button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down until you see your signature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stamp it on the PDF<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the corner handles to resize it to fit the signature line<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the circle in the center to reposition the signature<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a Digital Signature with an Actual Signature<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The signature stamp from the last step is convenient, but in some cases, it won&#8217;t qualify as a real &#8220;digital signature.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A &#8220;digital signature&#8221; is more than just a picture of your signature. &#8220;Digital signature&#8221; is an official, technical term. When you &#8220;digitally sign&#8221; a PDF, you place an encrypted stamp on the document that &#8220;locks&#8221; it, preventing any further changes to the PDF. In other words, a digital signature is a mark that <em>proves<\/em> you signed the document at a specific date and time, and that the document has not changed since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital signatures don&#8217;t need to include an actual signature, though most will include your name with a fancy font that mimics an actual signature. But what if you could use your <em>real<\/em> signature in a digital signature? Well now you can. Here&#8217;s how to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, import your transparent signature:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to FileCenter&#8217;s <em>PDF Editor<\/em> tab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <em>File<\/em> menu in the PDF editor &gt; <em>New Document<\/em> &gt; <em>With Blank Pages<\/em> and click <em>OK<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the <em>Document<\/em> menu in the PDF editor &gt; <em>Digital Signatures<\/em> &gt; <em>Place Signature<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Your mouse cursor will turn to a rectangle; this is for placing your signature. For now, click anywhere on the page. If you don&#8217;t know what that is, just click <em>Create Certificate<\/em> and follow the prompts. If you already have a certificate, open it, or click the drop-arrow by <em>Issued To<\/em> to select it. You only need to do this once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Section 2 has details you can fill out when you sign a document. In particular, look at the <em>Permissions<\/em> option. Here you can lock down your PDF as tightly as you&#8217;d like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What we care about, though is the section with <em>&lt;Sample Name&gt;<\/em>. This is the actual stamp that will go on your document. This is your digital signature, and it&#8217;s the part we want to customize:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Double-click on the image that has <em>&lt;Sample Name&gt;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A list of digital signature templates will open<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the first one (<em>Default<\/em>) and click the <em>Edit<\/em> button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <em>Icon<\/em>, click <em>Change<\/em> &gt; <em>Import from File<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the source image, click the <em>Browse<\/em> button (it looks like a folder)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <em>File Type<\/em>, make sure that <em>PNG<\/em> is selected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Browse to your transparent signature and open it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After it opens, make sure <em>Remove Background<\/em> is selected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <em>OK<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you can see your signature in the stamp. The <em>Display Text<\/em> section lets you choose what other elements you want to have in the stamp, like date, location, reason, your typed name, etc. Customize it however you&#8217;d like, then click <em>OK<\/em>. Click <em>OK<\/em> again to close the list of templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you&#8217;re ready to sign your document. Fill out the information on the <em>Sign Document<\/em> dialog, then click <em>OK<\/em>. Your signature will be placed on the document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s how to digitally sign a PDF in the future:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <em>Document<\/em> menu in the PDF editor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <em>Digital Signatures<\/em> &gt; <em>Place Signature<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the rectangle exactly where you want the signature to go, then click<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out the required info<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <em>OK<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You will usually be prompted to save a new copy of the PDF. The new copy is signed and secured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Ways to Use a Transparent Signature<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your transparent signature works great in PDF files, but you can use it in other ways too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We created your signature as a PNG file. This is a basic image file that works just about anywhere.
